Information available online for Roanoke Fall Festival walks, runs

The Roanoke Fall Festival Five Mile Race Committee now has a website, www.fallfestfive.org, for race information and online registrations.

This year's event will include the 5K walk, five-mile run, and the one-mile fun run/walk. The five-mile and 5K events are scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. sharp with the one-mile fun run/walk at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.

Race organizers are encouraging participants to register online and save money. Race day registration will once again be in Zent Commons at the corner of Main and 1st streets, adjacent to the Post Office.

Registration opens up at 6:45 a.m. with a slight increase in the race fee on the day of the race. No credit cards are accepted for race day registration - checks and cash only.

Race belts will be given to the first 75 registrants.

The Five Mile run begins at 7:30 a.m. and runners and walkers will meet at Zent Commons at 7:20 a.m. and will head to the start line as a group. The start line is at Main and 8th streets. The course continues to feature a fast downhill start through the main street of Roanoke, then out to Arlington Heights subdivision for a short loop and then runners return to the finish line right on Main Street.

The 5K walk also begins at 7:30 a.m. and is specifically designed for walkers. This walk is an untimed event though walkers can keep track of the competition time clock themselves. The 5K event start line is also at Main and 8th Streets (will start with the 5 mile walkers/runners), turnaround is a short distance past 800N on Roanoke Road and the finish line is on Main Street.

The One Mile run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m., in front of the Post Office and is open to anyone and everyone for a fee.
