Art, entertainment and food will provide the backdrop for a "plein air" painting contest during A Renaissance in Roanoke.

The event will be held on Saturday, Oct.13, in downtown Roanoke.

Artists will set up their easels throughout the town in "plein air" - outdoors - to create their works throughout the day. They will take their finished products to the Crestwoods Frame Shop and Gallery at 1:30 p.m. for judging by Charles Shepard, director of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

Area elementary school students have created their own "plein air" paintings, which will be on display in Zent Commons at Main and First streets. Children's art activities will also be offered in Zent Commons.
Huntington University students will offer face painting.
Several participating artists will offer interactive activities.

Artists will set up more than 50 booths on Main Street and First Street in a juried art marketplace. Their works are available for purchase and include ceramics, glass, jewelry, metalworking, painting, photography, recycled art, watercolors, woodworking, mixed media and leather working. Several artists will also offer demonstrations.

Entertainers will be featured on the festival stage throughout the day and strolling performers, including "Mr. Taps" from Chicago, will wander throughout the downtown area.

Stage performances include guitarist Kent Young, at 10 a.m.; Darlene Hatchett, on the hammered dulcimer, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; the vocal-guitar act of Kenzie & Kristen at noon; Kmonique's Dance Company at 2 p.m.; and a vocal group from Snyder High School at 3 p.m.
Fall produce and other items will be offered at the Farmers Market.
