Sheriff’s dept., ISP to feed vets Friday morning

Area veterans can get a free breakfast on Friday, Nov. 10, courtesy of the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department with help from the Indiana State Police.

The breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, 220 W. Park Drive, Huntington.

“We’ll be serving a full breakfast, at no charge,” says Sheriff Terry Stoffel, who has organized the breakfast for several years.

Cooks from the Huntington County Jail will prepare biscuits and gravy, hash browns and eggs, a meal that will be complemented by rolls donated by Walmart. Gloria Holzinger is making custom decorated cupcakes for the vets, Stoffel says.

Members of the sheriff’s department and the state police will serve the food and make sure cups and glasses remain full of orange juice, coffee and water.

Several hundred T-shirts — a salute from the law enforcement agencies to veterans — will be handed out.

Behind the scenes, inmates from the Huntington County Jail will be washing the dishes.

Last year, Stoffel says, about 380 veterans attended the breakfast. This year, he expects to serve about 500.
