The Huntington North High School baseball team got just two hits and lost to Homestead in the championship game of the Homestead Sectional Baseball Tournament, 5-1, on Monday, June 1.

Things started off great for the Vikings as leadoff batter Jamon Hammel opened the contest with a home run to give HNHS a quick 1-0 lead, but Spartan hurler Charles Weaver allowed only one other hit - a single by Taylor Harris - in seven innings to put 24-3 Homestead into the regional.

The Vikings, finishing at 15-13, held onto that 1-0 lead until the fourth when Homestead pulled ahead with two runs on only one hit, three walks and a Viking error.

After starting pitcher Nick Miller walked the leadoff batter of the inning and then got a strikeout, Weaver put runners on first and second with a single. Hammel then replaced Miller on the mound, and Brett Wiley's error loaded the bases for Homestead. Hammel walked in the first Homestead run of the contest, but then got the next Homestead batter to hit it back to him for a force at home. A second walk pushed across what proved to be the winning run before Billy Ray came in to close out the inning.

Homestead got three more runs in the sixth to seal the contest, getting three hits and a steal of home.

The three HNHS hurlers allowed eight hits, struck out seven and walked four. On the other side, Weaver had six Ks and three walks, and hit two batters.
