Tackett, Bischoff help Indiana bowlers defeat Kentucky

Huntington North High School bowling team members EJ Tackett and Elizabeth Bischoff helped the Indiana All-Stars defeat the Kentucky All-Stars 23,359 to 22,498 for the overall title for the third consecutive year

Competition was held June 27 at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis.

Both the Indiana girls and boys also defeated their Kentucky counterparts.

In the morning team competition, Bischoff was partnered with 2009 Queen's champion Lisa Hunt of Indianapolis, 2007 Indiana High School champion Christina Oschman of Evansville and Heather LeBaute of Elkhart.

Twenty girls and 20 boys competed for Indiana with five teams of four bowlers each. Bischoff rolled games of 215-169-171 for a 555 series.

Hunt led all female bowlers in the tournament with a 649 series.

The Indiana girls defeated Kentucky 11,331 to 10,617. Oschman rolled 545 and Heather LeBaute had a 484.

In the boys' team competition, Viking bowler EJ Tackett struggled. Tackett is the 2009 high school individual, state youth all-events and Pepsi champion.

Rolling his lowest three-game total in tournament play this year, he started out with only a 116 game. Tackett came back and ended with games of 211 and 188 for a 515 series. On Tackett's team were high school state third place finisher Ryan McCoy with 688, Zach Lone from Indianapolis with 545 and Zach Weidman from Lafayette with 658.

The Indiana boys defeated the Kentucky boys 12,028 to 11,881. .

In the singles competition in the afternoon, bowlers were seeded based on their scores in the morning team competition. Bischoff was the 11th Indiana seed and Tackett was the 19th seed.

Bischoff lost her opening two-game match 329 (157-172) to 318 (172-146) to 11th seed Elizabeth Byron of Kentucky.

Tackett also lost his opening match to second seed James Fielder of Kentucky 432 (198-234) to 425 (222-199).

Both Bischoff and Tackett received scholarships and certificates at the award banquet held the following morning.

All bowlers from both teams also went to the Indiana Fever WNBA game Saturday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.
At mid-court, the traveling trophy was presented to Corky Coch and Tim Fye at halftime.

Also at halftime four boys and four girls from each state, including Bischoff, formed a tunnel to welcome the Fever back on the court.
