The Huntington University women's basketball team will host its annual "Pink Out" at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the university's Merillat Physical Education and Recreation Complex.
Breast cancer survivors will be honored during halftime of the Huntington University-Taylor University women's basketball game.
"Pink Out" is a nationwide initiative of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to support breast cancer research and awareness programs.
HU's "Pink Out" is an event to raise awareness and resources to advance breast cancer education and research. Proceeds from gate receipts, donations and "pink" popcorn sales will benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
"We encourage you to bring family, friends and breast cancer survivors on Saturday, Feb. 11, as we ‘paint the gym pink' (wear pink), honor survivors and raise funds to find a cure," says Lori Culler, HU women's basketball head coach.
Breast cancer survivors are asked to register in advance by visiting the HU "Pink Out" website at www.huntington.edu/Athletics/2012-Pink-Out/.
Local businesses and area residents are invited to serve as "Pink Out" sponsors.
