HU women's tennis team screams out of gate

The Huntington University women's tennis team came screaming out of the gate with a 9-0 win against host Bluffton in its opener on Thursday, Aug. 30.

The Foresters won every match in straight sets, led by four shutouts. No. 5 singles player Ciara Smith blanked Tyler Jennings, 6-0, 6-0; No. 6 singles player Madison Johnson did the same to Marissa Radigan; the first doubles team of Aleksandra Spasic and Cassandra Kasicki blanked Caitlin Nearhood and Melissa Hostetler, 8-0; and the No. 3 doubles team of Smith and Johnson did the 8-0 whitewash to Alex Fox and Radigan.

Spasic at first singles downed Nearhood, 6-1, 6-1, and Kasicki at second singles dominated Hostetler, 6-1, 6-0. Jessica Abel beat Ashley Jones, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and Katie Johnson downed Fox, 6-1, 6-4, at fourth singles.
The second doubles team of Abel and Katie Johnson beat Jones and Jennings, 8-2.
