Doubles win lead HU netwomen past Goshen

The Huntington University women's tennis team defeated host Goshen College, 7-2, on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The Foresters, 3-1, 1-1 in Crossroads League action, swept all three double matches. Aleksandra Spasic and Cassie Kasicki defeated Anika Baumgartner and Maria Thomas at first doubles, 8-4, Jessica Abel and Katie Johnson edged Nikita Zook and Mikayla Adamski at second doubles, 9-8 and Madison Johnson and Ciara Smith blasted Rebekah Steiner and Lauren Stoltzfus at third singles, 8-1.
In singles play, Kasicki handled Stoltzfus, 6-1, 6-1, at second singles. Johnson, at fourth singles, cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Adamski and Amber Bos, at sixth singles, made quick work of Steiner, 6-0, 6-3. Smith was pressured by Maddie Ruth in her fifth singles match, but emerged victorious, 7-6, 2-6 (10-4).
Spasic fell to Baumgartner at first singles, 6-1, 3-6, 2-6 and Abel was defeated by Zook at third singles, 1-6, 4-6.
