The Huntington North High School boys' varsity tennis team had two singles matches go three sets and was victorious in each, helping give the Vikings a 3-2 win over visiting Northrop on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
At second singles, Tommy Bolinger won his first set against Tyler Jordan, 6-1, faltered in the second set, 3-6, but rebounded in the third set, 6-4. It was a nearly identical story for Matt Sieberns at third singles, as Sieberns won his first set against John Tutle, 6-1, dropped the second set, 3-6, and rebounded, like Bolinger, in the third set, 6-3.
A win by Wyatt Nave and Cameron Buzzard at second doubles over John Nguyen and Isaiah Bledsoe, 6-4, 6-1, was the difference for the Vikings, 5-7.
Aaron Gilmore didn't have an answer for Alex Stauretis at first singles, losing in straight sets, 0-6, 0-6, and Dylan Baumgartner and Andrew Smith had trouble with Brian York and Mike Ankenbruck at first doubles, losing 2-6, 1-6.
In junior varsity action, Huntington North went 2-0 as Nathan Lundy won his singles match against Hendrix Mogley, 6-4, and Tristan Thieken won his singles match against Gavin Neyman, 6-1.
