Viking wrestlers at back of pack in own invitational

The Huntington North High School varsity wrestling team went 1-4 and tied for seventh place out of the eight teams competing in the Huntington North Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The Vikings' lone win came against Bishop Luers, whom they defeated 40-16. The team lost to Garrett, 48-28; Oak Hill, 46-30; Bishop Dwenger, 48-26; and Norwell, 42-36.

Kyle Jolas, wrestling at 145, led the Vikings with five wins against no losses, with his wins coming on two falls, a technical fall and a major decision.

Sebastian Eckert, at 152, also finished the day undefeated, with two wins against no losses, his wins coming via a fall and a forfeit.

Four Vikings went 4-1. Alex Beal at 126 and Tanner Shipley at 132 both got there on three pins and a forfeit, Ian Hiers at 138 got there on two pins and two decisions and Shawn Renz at heavyweight got there on two pins, a forfeit and a decision.

Sean Reynolds at 160 and Lane Emery at 195 both went 2-3, with the former notching two pins and the latter getting a pin and a forfeit.

Lane Hoeppner at 152 went 1-2, earning a technical fall.

Chandler Updike at 171 and Josh Danals at 220 each finished 1-4. Updike's win came via forfeit and Danals' came on pin.

Carroll won the invitational.
