Friday, December 14, 2012 5:04 PM
Five pins among eight decisions earned the Huntington North High school varsity wrestling team a 42-36 win over host Southwood on Thursday, Dec. 13.
Seniors Sebastian Eckert and Dakota Plasterer picked up two of the falls for HNHS, at 152 and 170 pounds, respectively. Junior Kyle Jolas at 145 and sophomores
Tanner Shipley and Layne Emery, at 132 and 195, respectively, got the other sticks.
Ian Hiers at 138 pounds and Josh Danals at 220 both got decision wins for the Vikings, and heavyweight Shawn Renz won by forfeit.
Three of the Vikings' five losses on the night came from forfeiting at the lowest three classes.
"Our kids wrestled very aggressively and fundamentally sound tonight," said HNHS Head Coach Rick Brown. "We came out and got the pins we needed, which is key when giving up some of our lighter weights.
"We have begun building some positive momentum, starting with the Charger Invitaitional last weekend, and look fodward to the Weston Clsoe Invitational coming up over Christmas break."
