Vikings come up short in seesaw battle with Wayne

In a game that saw 11 lead changes and eight ties, the Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team came up short against host Fort Wayne Wayne, 77-71, on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Noah Reed led Huntington North, 4-3, with 22 points. Trenton Kern sank 4 of 6 shots, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc, to add 13 points, and Kalvin Miller had 12.

The Vikings trailed after the first quarter, 19-9, but responded with 28 points in the second to build a 37-35 halftime lead. The teams went into the final quarter tied at 54-all.

Justin Mitchell paced the Generals with 27 points on 11 of 15 shooting. Jescus Mitchell supplied 18 to the team's cause.

For the game, Wayne hit 26 of 43 shots for a clip of 60.5 percent, edging Huntington North's 26 of 50 effort for 52 percent.

Miller led the Vikings in rebounds with six, and Reed was the top assist man with four.

The Vikings won the junior varsity game, 46-30. Grant Canady led the team with 14 points, followed by Jordan Seabolt's 11 and Cody Adams' eight.
