HU pastes Akron-Wayne, 90-50

Shane Merryman scored 22 points and Ryan Boester scored 21 to lead the Huntington University men's basketball team to a 90-50 pasting of visiting University of Akron-Wayne on Monday, Dec. 17.

Merryman, a junior, hit 10 of 11 shots form the field and Boester, a sophomore, went 7 of 10, including 7 of 9 from 3-point range as the Foresters improved to 8-5 on the season.

HU hit 33 of 58 shots from the field for 56.9 percent, including 14 of 30 from beyond the arc for 46.7 percent.
T.J. Short and Tyler Ault both added 10 points for HU, whle Alec Peterson added nine and Colin Featherston scored eight off the bench.

The Foresters ran out to a 48-22 lead by halftime. After Merryman tied the score at 5 on a shot at the 18:23 mark, the Foresters went on a 16-5 run over the next six minutes and never looked back.

Short had six rebounds to lead the Foresters to a 38-24 advantage on the glass. The junior also had a game-high and career-high nine assists and added two steals and two blocks for good measure.

Devaughn Boddie scored 18 points to lead Akron, 2-9.

Merryman has hit 29 of his last 33 field goal attempts spanning three games.
