Lady Vike gymnasts edge DeKalb in season-opener

The Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team edged visiting DeKalb, 96.100-95.500, in its season-opener on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

The Lady Vikings won beam and floor. Mavin Chaney tied for tops on beam with a score of 8.050 and Robyn Karst was runner-up on floor with an 8.450.

Hannah Bomba was second on bars with a 7.450, followed by Carly Snyder and Chaney, who tied for third with scores of 7.400.

Robyn Karst took third on vault with a score of 8.500, with Mikayla Carpenter, Chaney and Snyder sharing fourth with scores of 8.400.

Carpenter placed third on floor with an 8.400, while Alexa Shoemaker placed fifth with an 8.300 and Snyder finished sixth with an 8.000.

On beam, Ana Eckert was third with a 7.900 and Snyder and Carpenter shared fifth with scores of 7.450.

Chaney, Snyder and Carpenter finished 3-4-5 in the all-around with scores of 31.800, 31.250 and 30.450, respectively.

Kristin Russell won bars and the all-around outright for DeKalb while tying Chaney for top honors on beam. Ryley Gibson placed first on vault and Haley Gibson took the top spot on floor.
