Taylor beats punchless Foresters, 70-44

The Huntington University men's basketball team was down by 10 less than five minutes into its game with host Taylor University, which set the tone for the contest as the Foresters lost 70-44 on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Huntington, 12-8, 3-5 in Crossroads League play, never led against their conference opponents, who outshined them in field goal percentage, 45.8 to 34, on 27 for 59 shooting versus 16 for 47, respectively.

Alec Peterson led the Foresters with 14 points, followed by Shane Merryman's 12 and T.J. Short's nine to go with eight rebounds, which tied for the game-high.

Ben Raichel and Casey Coons put up 16 apiece for the Trojans, with Nate Kasper and Tommy Peller each adding 10.

The 3-point shot wasn't there to help Huntington catch up as it went 1 for 10 from beyond the arc for 10 percent. Taylor turned in a 10 for 28 performance for 35.7 percent from 3-point land that was bolstered by its 7 for 13 showing in the first half.

The Trojans also shared the ball better than the Foresters, handing out 13 assists to Huntington's four.
