Eagle pair pushes CC past Viking cagers

Daniel Woll and Derek Hinen combined for 58 points to lead host Columbia City past the Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team, 71-64, on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The Vikings, 7-7, held a 33-27 lead after the first half of play, but the Eagles, 13-2, used a 24-13 third quarter advantage to take a 51-46 lead into the final frame, and from there it was a matter of the hosts hitting free throws.
Kalvin Miller had 23 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Vikings. Noah Reed added 13 points and Trenton Kern had nine.
Woll scored a game-high 31 points on 8 of 12 marksmanship from the field and 15 of 17 shooting from the free-throw line. Hinen provided big-time back-up with 27 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field.
The Vikings hit 24 of 52 from the field for 46.1 percent, including a creditable 10 of 22 from beyond the arc for 45.4 percent. They only took six free throws on the evening, making all six.
The Eagles hit 23 of 44 shots from the field for 52.2 percent and went 23 of 30 from the charity stripe for 76.6 percent.
Reed led the Vikes on the boards with six rebounds and also had a team-high three asssits.
The Huntington North junior varsity also got tagged with a loss, falling 45-39.
Jordan Seabolt and Derek Snyder led HNHS with 15 and 13 points, respectively, and Grant Canady pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
