Wednesday, January 23, 2013 10:49 AM
Allyson Trout scored at least 20 points for the second game in a row, but it wasn't enough to lead the Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team over visiting South Side on Tuesday, Jan. 22, as the team fell 57-49.
Trout did most of her damage from beyond the arc, where she made 5 of 10 en route to her 20-point total, a game-high. The senior also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out two assists.
Lindsey Foster and Paige Coolman added seven points apiece to the Lady Vikings' cause, with the latter also supplying six boards, and Hannah Stoffel delivered six points to go with seven rebounds.
Huntington North, 4-14, hung with 16-2 South Side the whole game, trailing only 29-24 at the half, and 47-40 after three. The Lady Archers' defense factored heavily into the outcome, as it forced 14 steals to the Lady Vikings' one and generated 24 points off turnovers compared to 12 for the hosts.
A balanced offensive effort also aided South Side, as Brittni Clopton scored 14 points, Ariana Simmons tallied 12 and Lakyn Gulley tossed in 11.
The Lady Archers held the edge in field goal percentage, 47.1 to 40, on 24 of 51 shooting to the Lady Vikings' 16 for 40 effort.
The Huntington North junior varsity trounced South Side, 43-12.
Sarah Fryman led the Lady Vikings with 10 points and seven boards, both game-highs.
