Four advance to regionals for HNHS matmen

The Huntington North High School varsity wrestling team produced two individual champions and two regional qualifiers at the New Haven Wrestling Sectional on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Tanner Shipley at 132 pounds and Kyle Jolas at 145 claimed individual sectional crowns for Huntington North, which finished sixth out of nine teams.

Sebastian Eckert at 152 placed third and Ian Hiers at 138 made fourth to qualify for the Carroll Wrestling Regional on Feb. 2.

Jolas, 35-3, recorded two pins and a major decision on his way to the sectional title, beating Woodlan's Trey Delagrange in the championship match.

Shipley ran his record to 30-8, getting two pins and a forfeit en route to defeating Leo's Isaac Eicher.

Prior to their defeats, Eckert, 27-5, registered three pins and Hiers, 20-15, picked up a pin and a decision.

Not advancing for the Vikings is Layne Emery at 195, who placed fifth; Alex Beal at 126, Chandler Updike at 160 and Dakota Plasterer at 170, who each finished sixth; and Josh Danals at 220 and Shawn Renz at heavyweight, who did not place.
