Board play carries HU women past Mount Vernon Nazarene

A superior rebounding effort carried the Huntington University women's basketball team over visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 55-51, on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The Foresters battered the Cougars on the boards, 33 to 20, and netted 15 second-chance points to just one for Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Huntington broke the game's third tie with just under two minutes remaining before the half and took a 28-27 lead into the locker room. The Foresters preserved that advantage in the second half with their play on the boards, grabbing 20 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, compared to only 11 total for the Cougars.
Taylor Foley and Amelia Recker shared the game's top rebounding honors, grabbing six apiece, while Pazia Speed and Lauren Meese each collected five.
Speed scored 17 points to pace the Foresters, 15-10, 7-7 in the Crossroads League. Sarah Miller-Jennings contributed 13 points to the team's cause and combined with Speed to go 12 for 13 from the charity stripe.
Camaranne Myles paced the Cougars, 7-18, with 12 points, doing all of her damage from the beyond the arc, where she went 4 for 4.
Foley and Miller-Jennings each had four assists to lead HU in that category, and Speed added four steals.
