Three members of the Huntington North High School varsity wrestling team are advancing to semi-state after claiming regional crowns at the Carroll Wrestling Regional on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Sophomore Tanner Shipley at 132 pounds, junior Kyle Jolas at 145 and senior Sebastian Eckert at 152 each won their weight class, compiling 75 points for the Vikings, which earned them fifth-place honors among the 20 teams at the regional.

Semi-state is on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Memorial Coliseum, in Fort Wayne.

Shipley recorded three decisions on the day and defeated North Side's Carlos Garcia in the championship match, 3-2, running his record to 33-8.

Jolas got two technical falls and a major decision, producing one of the tech falls in his 15-0 win over Churubusco's Brandon Wormcastle for the title, taking his record to 38-3.

Two pins got Sebastian Eckert to his weight class's final match, where he defeated Carroll's Tristan Wilson on a 9-6 decision to push his record to 30-5.

Also wrestling for Huntington North was Ian Hiers, who did not advance to semi-state after losing his first match. The senior ended his day by pinning Woodlan's Haydan Parisot in 4:09 to place fifth in his weight class, finishing the season with a 22-16 record.

Carroll won the regional with 180 points. Churubusco was second with 92.5 points, New Haven was third with 91 points and Leo was fourth with 87.
