Pair of firsts not enough for HNHS gymnasts

The Huntington North High School gymnastics team got firsts from Hannah Bomba and Alexa Shoemaker but couldn't overcome visiting Fort Wayne Northrop on Tuesday, Feb. 5, falling 101.300-99.400.

Bomba scored an 8.150 to capture the uneven parallel bars, and Shoemaker scored an 8.650 to claim victory on the floor exercise for the Lady Vikings' highlights.

Mikayla Carpenter placed second on the floor with an 8.450 and Robyn Karst placed sixth with an 8.250 for the Lady Vikings' best event placings of the meet.

The Lady Vikings had their best scoring of the meet on the vault, where Mavin Chaney and Robyn Karst tied for fourth with scores of 8.550 and Carpenter placed sixth with an 8.350, giving HNHS 25.450 points.

Carly Snyder placed fifth and Chaney sixth, respectively, on the bars with scores of 7.750 and 7.7000.

Snyder led the way for HNHS on the beam with a score of 8.900 for second place. Chaney was fourth with an 8.300 and Ana Eckert was sixth with a 7.800.

Snyder was the top Lady Viking in all-around, placing fourth with a score of 33.000 points. Chaney was fifth with a score of 32.650, and Carpenter was sixth with a score of 30.600.

Northrop's Nataley Sliger won the vault with a score of 8.950, and Cassie Neilands took first on the beam with an 8.950. The Lady Bruins' Lauren Wagner was tops on all-around with a score of 33.850.
