Viking track team ties for 8th at FW Invite

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity track team had two scorers in a pair of events to help it place in an eighth place tie on Saturday, March 2, at the Fort Wayne Invitational indoor track meet.

Seniors Jon Rentschler and Alex Kaylor placed second and seventh, respectively, in the shot put, and senior Cordell Lewis and junior Charlie Mettler placed third and seventh, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run.

Rentschler heaved the ball 48-04 to place runner-up to Churusbusco's Austin McClure in the shot. Kaylor had a throw of 44-8 for his seventh place, earning the Vikings 10 of their 24 points on the day.

Lewis went 9:52.63 in the 3,200 for his third, and Mettler came in at 9:58.86 for his seventh place as the pair accounted for eight more HNHS points.

The Vikings also got a fourth place from their distance medley team and an eighth place from their 1,600-meter relay squad.

Fort Wayne Wayne won the meet with 64 points. Fort Wayne Northrop was runner-up with 44 points and Carroll was third with 39 points.
