The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2012-13 Division II Men's Basketball All-America teams and among the list of third team honorees was Huntington University's Shane Merryman.
Merryman was one of nine Crossroads League players to receive All-America honors.
The 6-5 junior forward was Huntington's go-to man offensively this season. He finished sixth in NAIA Division II in scoring at 21.97 points per game and field goal percentage at 61.8 percent. The Fort Wayne native and Carroll High School grad also enjoyed plenty of success at the charity stripe where he knocked down 83.0 percent of his attempts to finish 14th in the nation in free throw percentage.
In addition to topping the conference in scoring and shooting, Merryman also finished second in the league in free throw percentage, seventh in total rebounds per game at 6.29 and eighth in defensive rebounds per game at 4.45 and for his efforts was named First Team All-Conference.
Merryman is only the eighth Forester to be recognized as an All-American in the past decade. To date, he has accumulated 1,334 points which places him 25th on Huntington's all-time scoring list.
For his career, he is averaging 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing.
