Rethlake, Hiple lead Lady Vikings past Northrop, 12-2

Erin Rethlake struck out 16 batters and she and Alyssa Hiple each knocked in three runs as the Huntington North High School varsity softball team clubbed host Fort Wayne Northrop, 12-2, on Tuesday, April 9.

Rethlake held Northrop to one earned run on three hits and issued only one walk while she and her hitting mates were banging around Northrop's pitching for 12 hits, including Rethlake's second homer of the season. Maddi Kennedy, Kaylynn Rosen and Natasha Grover each added to the fray with a double.

The Lady Vikings are 2-0 on the season, while Northrop fell to 0-2.

Kennedy, Hiple, Rethlake, Makayla Whaley and Grover each had two hits in the contest.

HNHS led 2-1 after the first inning and held a 3-2 lead after three before unleashing a six-run frame on the hosts. A three-run sixth pushed the margin to its final destination.
