HNHS trackgirls second out of 4 at Northrop

Despite only producing one champion, the Huntington North High School girls' varsity track and field team tallied 68.5 points and finished second out of four teams at Northrop on Monday, April 15.
Onna Doering's toss in discus of 93-0 claimed the Lady Vikings' lone gold on the day in the meet also featuring Fort Wayne North Side and Concordia.
Maddie Klender finished behind Doering in the event with a throw of 85-1.5 and Caitlyn Sands placed fourth with a hurl of 81-10.
Klender grabbed another silver spot, in shot put, with a heave of 36-52.
Additional second-place finishes in field events came from Lindsey Foster in long jump with a leap of 17-1, Berna Christiansen in high jump with a spring of 4-8 and Alexis Wygant in pole vault with a showing of 8-6.
Sands finished fifth in pole vault with a 6-6.
Marissa Jamison in the 1,600-meter run and Karson Rowe in the 3,200-meter run were Huntington North's other runners-up. Jamison turned in a time of 6:08.5 and Rowe clocked in at 12:48.2.
Tammy Munro finished fourth and Kayla Farrell placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run, with times of 6:22.9 and 6:47.0, respectively.
Robyn Karst finished behind Rowe in the 3,200-meter run, taking third in 13:10.4.
Other Lady Viking points came from Hannah Peters' third and Rachel Nalliah's fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:45.3 and 3:01, respectively; Hannah Stoffel's third and Stephanie McElhaney's fourth in the 400-meter run in 1:03.3 and 1:06.3, respectively; and Allie Christian's fourth and Alexa Shoemaker's fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in :17.3 and :17.5, respectively.
Also, Machaela Mertz's fourth-place finishes in the 100-meter dash in :12.7 and 200-meter dash in :26.3; Sarah Johnson's fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in :54.9; and Alexis Wygant's fifth in high jump on a bound of 4-8.
In team races, Huntington North's 1,600-meter relay squad finished second in 4:08.5, as did the 3,200-meter relay quartet in 10:07. The 400-meter relay unit made third in 52.6.
Northrop won the invitational with 93 points. North Side took third with 59.5 and Concordia was fourth with 21.
