Tuesday, April 23, 2013 11:04 AM
Katie Bowers smacked a home run and Marcie McDougle scattered three hits over six innings as the Huntington University softball team topped visiting Spring Arbor University 8-1 in the second game for a doubleheader split on Monday, April 22.
The Foresters, 14-12, dropped the opener 3-1.
Bowers had two hits and two ribbies and Annie Weaver went 4 for 4 to lead the HU bats in the second contest. Pazia Speed also had two hits.
McDougle, meanwhile, was keeping the Spring Arbor bats quiet, yielding just a lone run in the fourth inning while striking out four with no walks. She got seventh inning relief help from Ariel Sheets.
In the opener, Emily Puterbaugh and Kaylin Yon lost a tough battle with SAU's Erika Lehr. Spring Arbor pushed across solo tallies in the first, third and fourth innings, while the Foresters only got a seventh inning singleton.
Bowers had two hits in the first game as well.
