Meese, Tackett lead HNHS golfers over Columbia City

Grant Meese and Zac Tackett broke cracked the 40 barrier to lead the Huntington North High School boys' varsity golf team to a 162-169 win over visiting Columbia City on Thursday, April 25.

Meese and Tackett both shot rounds of 38 on the back nine at LaFontaine Golf Course, and were backed up by Dakota Wibel with a 41 and Sebastian Eckert with a 45.

"Our kids showed a ton of fight tonight and competed like they wanted to win and had something to prove," said HNHS Head Coach Richard Winter. "We move sectionals this year to Warsaw, and Columbia City will be one of the contenders. I think our kids wanted to show them that we will be a force to reckon with at sectional."

Columbia City got a 39 from Spencer Klimek as its top scorer. Tyler Green shot a 41, Trent Murphy followed with a 44 and Cameron Slavich shot a 45.

Conner Hoke and Jacob Vinson were non-scorers for HNHS with rounds of 48 and 51, respectively.

The Viking junior varsity also won, 179-212.

Dakota Hunt led the way for HNHS with a round of 32. Aidan Wright shot a 44, Michael May shot a 45 and Hoke had his 48.
