1,600-meter relay win leads HNHS trackgirls to fourth at Lime City Relays

A win in the 1,600-meter relay helped the Huntington North High School girls' track team to a fourth place finish among nine teams at its own Lime City Relays on Saturday, April 27.

The squad of Kayla Patrick, Alexis Wygant, Lindsey Foster and Machaela Mertz quickstepped around the Kriegbaum Field oval in 4:04.27 to earn the Lady Vikings their only top placing of the day.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Hannah Stoffel, Lauren Daas, Stephanie McElhaney and Karson Rowe was runner-up in its event with time of 9:58.17 to also help HNHS pile up 96.5 points.

Carroll won the meet with 133 points, edigng out runner-up Fort Wayne Northrop by just one-half point. Portage was third with 109.5 points.

The Lady Vikes also got a second place finish from pole vaulter Alexis Wygant at a height of 9-6, and long jumper Foster and shot putter Maddie Klender got thirds. Foster went 17-9 in her specialty and Klender heaved the ball 36-4.75 in her event.

Hannah Stoffel and Marie Ditzler got third and sixth, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run, in 11:52.79 and 12:16.06. Patrick claimed fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:24.93, and Paige Coolman and Onna Doering were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the discus, with distances of 98-5 and 97-9.

HNHS got fourth in both the 400-meter relay and the distance medley, and was fifth in the 800 sprint medley. The quartet of Alexa Shoemaker, Jami Feller, Foster and Mertz went :51.44 in the 400 relay, and Daas, Rowe, McElhaney and Marissa Jamison went 7:21.52 in the distance medley relay. Allie Christian, Feller, Foster and Mertz teamed to go 1:58.63 in the sprint medley.

Ari Nelson of Homestead set a new meet record in the long jump with a leap of 18-4.5.
