Puterbaugh one-hitter helps Foresters sweep IWU

Emily Puterbaugh fired a one-hitter in the first game as the Huntington University softball team beat host Indiana Wesleyan in a doubleheader, 6-0 and 13-2, on Monday, April 29.
Puterbaugh, a freshman, recorded 11 strikeouts with only one walk to improve her personal mark to 6-4 as the Foresters improved to 2016 on the season.
Fellow freshman Kaylin Yon then handcuffed IWU on seven hits through six innings in the second game, and her teammates banged out 13 hits in her support.
Katie Bowers ripped a two-run home run in the opener and Cristin Carter and Emily O'Leary each had two hits to back Puterbaugh's pitching performance.
The Foresters scored a single run in the second and added three more im the third before Bowers planted her homer in the fourth.
Katie Knous had a homer in the second contest, Lindsay Shellabarger had three hits and Carter, Pazia Speed and Allison Greene each had two hits.
Speed had three RBI and Catherine DePew, Carter and Knous each had a pair of RBI.
The Foresters held a 5-0 lead after three innings when IWU scored its lone two runs of the game in the fourth. HU responded with a four-spot in the fifth, and then put up four more runs in the seventh.
