Doubles sweep helps Lady Vike netgirls win fifth in row

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity tennis team swept doubles play and nearly pulled off the same feat in singles action against visiting Manchester on Wednesday, May 1, winning 4-1.

The Lady Vikings, 5-3, have now won five in a row.

Ana Eckert and Emily Karst blanked Reily Ruppert and Allison Smith at second doubles, 6-0, 6-0, and Mariah Zumbrun and Ashley Bard defeated Brittany Ogden and Michaela Pattison at first doubles, 6-0, 6-3.

Kylie Fredrick ceded only a point to Laurel Ruppert at first singles 6-1, 6-0, and Kari Bard triumphed over Katie Peden, 6-3, 6-3 in the second singles match.

The Squires' lone win came when Claire Barnett downed Emily Eherenman at third singles, 6-3, 6-3.

The Lady Viking junior varsity won 7-1.

Casey Richman topped Morgan McKee at first singles 8-3, Larissa Lund beat Kylie Hensley in the third singles match 8-1 and the team swept all the five doubles matches, pushing its record to 6-2.
