Late rallies fall short as Lady Vikings lose to Kokomo

A pair of late rallies fell a run short as the Huntington North High School varsity softball team lost to host Kokomo, 7-6, on Wednesday, May 15, for just the second loss of the season.

The Lady Vikings, 20-2, rallied back from a 3-1 deficit in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead on a Kaylynn Rosen three-run homer, but Kokomo struck for four runs in its half of the frame to take a 7-4 lead. The Lady Vikes then got two more runs in the sixth inning but couldn't push across the tying run.

Tori Newsome was tagged for the loss, pitching one inning and giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits. Mikayla Gray pitched four innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on six hits, with five strikeouts, and Erin Rethlake fanned three in one scoreless inning of work.

Alyssa Hiple and Natasha Grover each had two of Huntington's nine hits.
