The Huntington North High School girls' varsity tennis team topped Adams Central 3-2 to win the Norwell Girls' Tennis Sectional on Friday, May 17.

The Lady Vikings, 9-7, defeated the host Knights the day before, also by a score of 3-2, to face the Flying Jets for the sectional title.

Huntington North took both doubles matches, but Adams Central didn't make it easy. Ana Eckert and Emily Karst, playing at second doubles, lost their first set, 3-6, to Aubrie Sanders and Heather Gerber. The Lady Viking duo, however, battled back, achieving victories of 6-2 and 6-1 to take the match.

In the first doubles match, Mariah Zumbrun and Ashley Bard won the first set against Abby Snyder and Katie Carroll, 6-4, but dropped the second one, 3-6. The reliable senior pair, however, recorded another 6-4 victory in the third set to win the match and pull off the Huntington North doubles sweep.

Kylie Frederick, at first singles, had the Lady Vikings' third win with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Jessica Ripley.

Things started off promising for Emily Eherenman in her third singles match against Laura Sigwork with a 6-3 win, but the sophomore lost the next two sets 1-6, 4-6 to drop the match.

Kari Bard's 1-6, 0-6 setback to Lydia Johnson in the second singles match rounded out the day.

Huntington North will play in the Homestead Girls' Tennis Regional on Tuesday, May 21, against either Bishop Dwenger or Concordia.
