Viking tennis team sweeps Snider Tuesday

A win by every Huntington North High School boys' varsity tennis player destroyed visiting Fort Wayne Snider in a 5-0 sweep on Sept. 29.

In singles, No. 1 David Ballard defeated Andy Jones 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2, Chris Royer was pushed to three sets before winning against Snider's Paul Brumbaugh 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Matt Harter sealed the deal against Cole Douglas 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3.

Huntington North's Christian Webb and Ian Kardatzke took down Colleen Wooten and Tristen Marquart 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Neal Hamilton and Adam Klaffke beat Ryan Cooley and Matt Musick 7-5, 7-5.

Tuesday's match brought the Vikes to an even 9-9 record in the season.

The Huntington North boys' junior varsity tennis team, however, did not fare as well as their older counterparts, losing to Snider 5-3.

Snider took matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles. At No. 4, Josh Pinney trumped Zach Dunbar 8-3.

Viking Luke Hoffman fell to Josiah Shafer 7-8 (5-7), Alex Sereno lost to Dan Doell 6-8 and Brad Homme was defeated 3-8 by Sam Martinez.

In doubles, HNHS split the competition evenly with Snider. The Viking duo of Ethan Hethcote and Ben North beat Taylor Hansen and Tyler Davis 8-4 at No. 2; and at No. 3, Huntington's Tyler Carroll and Jeremy Rice beat Craig Violette and Daqanse Winston 8-2.

Keith Stambaugh and Stephen Reich lost 5-8 at No. 1 to Kyle Vollenweider and Landin Baron. Alex Denicolo and Tyler Bracht fell to Josiah Shafer and Dan Doell 4-8 at No. 4.

The junior varsity team is now 9-8-1 for the season.
