Bob Pearson, of Huntington, received the President's Distinguished Service Award at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's annual induction banquet held in Indianapolis earlier this year.

Marvin Tudor, president of the hall and also from Huntington, presented the award.

Pearson held past positions in the Hall of Fame including board member, director, building and grounds committee chairman and women's basketball committee. Also, Pearson was master of ceremonies at the Hall of Fame's regional meetings, which featured Matt Painter, head coach of the Purdue University men's basketball team, and Matt Doherty, former head coach of the University of Notre Dame men's basketball team.

"I've always been a fan of Indiana high school basketball, beginning in the ‘50s going to games at Rushville High School with my parents," said Pearson. "My interest in the game for the hall was to bring the fan's view into another aspect for historical history. There are so many wonderful people involved in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, from the volunteer workers to the very famous.

"Many thanks to Coach Bob Straight for introducing me to the Hall of Fame some 15 years ago."

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame is located in New Castle and is the only hall of fame in the world dedicated to basketball at the high school level.
