Saturday, August 17, 2013 11:45 AM
The Huntington Hornets 10U softball team competed in the third annual Fusion Meltdown on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 11, going 5-2 to earn second place, losing only to the home team, Covington Comets.
Carly Collins led the team with eight hits, five RBI and seven runs scored. MacKenzie LaCroix matched Collins' hit total, smacking two doubles and plating seven. Kate Leichty also slapped a pair of doubles and scored five times, while Madison Reust put her team-high .889 on-base percentage to good use, swiping six bags.
The Hornets got clutch hitting from both LaCroix and Leichty. LaCroix supplied the heroics in the team's first game, hitting a two-run single to win the contest, and Leichty came up with a two-RBI double to win another game.
As a team, the Hornets had 34 hits, 38 runs scored, 25 stolen bases and 27 RBI, with a batting average of .378 and an on-base percentage of .571 over seven games.
