Crestview wins county middle schools cross country titles

Crestview and Riverview Middle Schools, as well as Salamonie School, sent teams to three different events at the Huntington County Cross Country Meet at Riverview on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Twenty-eight runners took part in the seventh and eighth grade boys' 3k cross country run, which Crestview won with 21 points.

Caleb Stoffel led Crestview, placing first overall in 10:53.97. Alec Justice placed second, Landon Underwood finished fifth, Tyler Henline ended in sixth, and Dylan Mower placed seventh.

Non-scorers included David Prather, who finished 10th, and Luke Juillerat, who ended in 11th.

Salamonie took second in the same race with 43 points.

Walter Hacker finished third overall in 11:13.62 to lead Salamonie. Mathew DeWitt ended in fourth, Tommy Bolinger took 12th overall (10th for scoring), Cameron DeWitt placed 16th and Aaron Gilmore took 19th.

Salamonie had a sixth runner, JT Goulding, who placed 27th.

Riverview placed third in that competition with 56 points.

Alex Easley led Riverview, finishing eighth in 12:25.78. Austin Lange took ninth, Riley Killen finished 13th, Miguel Huerta ended in 17th and Alex Riggers took 20th

Non-scorers included Nick Bucher, who finished 22nd, and William Murray, who ended in 23rd.

In the seventh and eighth grade girls' 3k race, Crestview edged the competition, scoring 24 points.

Fifteen runners from all three schools competed in the competition.

Emily Eherenman of Crestview won the race overall in 12:35.40. Marissa Jamison took second, Corrine Zay took seventh, Alexis Aldred placed ninth and Valerie Huffman finished 10th.

Non-scorers for Crestview included Ashleigh Miller, who placed 11th, and Kayla Farrell, who ended in 13th.

Riverview took second place, finishing with 31 points.
Paulina Grunden led the Riverview squad, finishing third overall in 12:46.29. Cassidy Johnson took fourth, Hannah Stoffel placed fifth, Jamie Feller ended in 12th and Abby Kindler placed 14th.

Salamonie did not have enough participants to score as a team, but two Salamonie runners competed individually.
Rachel Jones placed sixth overall in 13:12.96, and Gabby Mason took eighth.

Crestview also won the third competition, the sixth grade boys and girls 2,000-meter race, with 24 points.

Twenty-two runners participated in the event.

Luke Stroud placed second overall and led the Crestview team in 8:00.04. Michael May placed third, Jacob Vinson ended in fourth, Ellie Lawson placed seventh and Colton Sheets finished eighth. Crestview non-scorers included Alec Goetz, who placed ninth and Synclair Williams, who took 10th.

The Riverview team placed second in the race with 24 points.

Keenan McKinzie won the overall race in 7:42.26 - almost 18 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Jack Doughty took fifth, Austin Kaylor placed sixth, Nathan Park took 12th and Hugh Miller ended in 13th.

Non-scorers for Riverview included Chase Shepard, who placed 14th, and Sara Fryman, who placed 18th.

While Salamonie did not have any participants in the sixth grade race, Huntington Catholic Schools' Emily Klepper competed as an individual, finishing 17th overall.
