Second doubles team lone victor in season-opening net loss for Vikings

A win by the second doubles team of Andrew Smith and Nick May was the highlight of the day for the Huntington North High School boy's varsity tennis team as it lost its opener to visiting Peru, 1-4, on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Smith, a senior, and May, a freshman, hung tough in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kameron Graham and Carson Ray.

In singles play, senior Tommy Bolinger fell 1-6, 1-6, to Logan Presno at No. 1, senior Wyatt Nave was a 2-6, 3-6 victim of Bralen Bales at No. 2 and Cameron Buzzard fell 5-7, 1-6, to Jack Zuers at No. 3.

At first doubles, senior Matt Sieberns and junior Grahm Sereno lost to Kreighton Ray and Austin Finicle, 2-6, 1-6.

The Huntington North junior varsity won all six of its matches.

In singles, Nathan Lundy topped Lucas Eckerly, 8-4; Tristan Thieken beat Kameron Wernz, 8-3; and Tyler Gates was an 8-1 winner over Andrew Rice.

In doubles, Dane Eherenman and Cameron Stuttle won 8-3, Matt York and Brent Krieger stopped Whitney Peterson and Meghan Manley, 8-5; and Huntington Phillips and Mo Phillips downed Jenny Baumer and Anna Burkhart, 8-3.
