Lady Vike harriers fifth at own invite

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity cross country team placed fifth out of 15 teams at the Huntington North Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Sophomore Hannah Stoffel led the way for the Lady Vikings, finishing 17th in 20:13.8.

After Stoffel, junior Emily Eherenman took 23rd in 21:16.5, junior Taryn Doering secured 28th in 21:29.1, senior Cassidy Johnson finished 30th in 21:32.4 and sophomore Marissa Jamison snagged 37th in 21:48.6.

Junior Stephanie McElhaney came in 41st in 21:57.5 and freshman Cadee Harmon was 74th in 23:33.7 to round out the team.

Carroll won the invitational with a score of 42. Homestead was runner-up with a 96, Warsaw was third with a 133, Fremont was fourth with a 133 and Huntington North was fifth with a 135.

Homestead's Madison Distelrath was the individual champion, clocking in at 19:07.0.

Huntington North finished fourth out of 12 teams in the junior varsity race.

Sophomore Rachel Nalliah was the Lady Vikings' top finisher, crossing the finish line in 23:18.0 to take 11th place.

The team's next three finishers, freshman Kelsey Coles, senior Rachel Jones and junior Kayla Farrell, finished in sequence, taking places 26th through 28th, respectively. Coles clocked in at 24:35.1, Jones finished in 24:41.2 and Farrell submitted a 24:42.8.

Senior Allyson Faurote came in 30th in 25:03.6 and Abby Henderson was 34th in 26:19.8 to complete the team, which scored a 122.
