HU women netters edge USF in opener

The Huntington University women's tennis team edged host University of Saint Francis, 5-4, on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in its season-opener
The Foresters, 1-0, went 4-2 in singles play, led by sophomore Cassie Kasicki's 6-1, 7-5 win over Chelsea Selking in the first singles match. Freshman Celine Rongos kept things going at second singles, beating Grace Heise, 6-3, 6-3. The fourth singles match yielded another HU win as senior Jessica Abel defeated Jessica Vietmeier, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Stacie Cressman topped Hunter Cunningham at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-1, to round out the team's singles wins.
Huntington's lone doubles win came via Smith and Cressman's defeat of Vietmeier and Cunningham in the third match, 8-5.
Senior Katie Johnson lost her match at third singles, 3-6, 1-6, to Elizabeth Faber and senior Ciara Smith fell at fifth singles, 3-6, 2-6, to Amy Goulet.
Kasicki and Johnson dropped their match at first doubles, 4-8, to Selking and Faber and Rongos and Abel lost a 3-8 decision to Heise and Goulet at second doubles
