HU netwomen top Goshen

The Huntington University women's tennis team recorded four wins in singles action and swept doubles play to top visiting Goshen College 7-2 on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Forester Cassie Kasicki and Anika Baumgartner took three sets to settle their match at No. 1 singles, with Kasicki emerging the victor, 6-0, 4-6, 10-6. Huntington's three other wins were of the two-set variety as freshman Celine Rongos downed Noemi Salvador at second singles, 6-2, 6-1; senior Katie Johnson won her fourth singles match with Mikayla Adamski, 6-3, 6-1; and senior Stacie Cressman overwhelmed Corine Alvarez at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Kasicki and freshman Morgan Bemisderfer teamed up to defeat Baumgartner and Maria Thomas, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles; Rongos and Johnson sent Salvador and Alvarez to an 8-3 defeat at second doubles; and senior Jessica Abel and Cressman downed Maddie Ruth and Adamski 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

Bemisderfer lost her third singles match with Ruth by default, 0-5, and Abel lost a three-set battle with Thomas, 6-7, 6-2, 7-10.

The Foresters improve to 3-2 and 3-1 in the Crossroads League.
