HU pair takes consolation bracket in ITA women's regional

It was a strong showing for the Huntington University women's tennis team as sophomore Cassie Kasicki and freshman Morgan Bemisderfer teamed up at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament hosted by Davenport University on Sept. 12-14 to win the consolation bracket.

After suffering an 8-4 loss in the opening round to Indiana Wesleyan University's D'Aniello and Marizzi, the Huntington duo went on to win three straight matches. The Forester combo made easy work of Green and Hurth of Aquinas before knocking out Huntington teammates Celine Rongos and Katie Johnson in the semifinals. They went on to dispose of Marian's Potter and Potter 8-4 for the consolation title.

Rongos and Johnson also had a good run in the tournament. After losing an 8-5 battle to Indiana Wesleyan's Wilson and Mella, the pair bounced back to blank Gnagy and Inserra of Taylor, 8-0, before meeting face-to-face with their Forester teammates.

In singles action, 15th-seeded Kasicki opened up play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marian's Sarah Potter to advance to the second round, where she defeated Courtney Siepmen of Indiana Wesleyan 6-2, 6-3 before being denied a spot in the semifinals by No. 2-seeded and nationally ranked Lauren Ramey of Aquinas, who claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win .

Rongos also competed in the singles bracket but dropped her first two matches to bring a quick end to her run in singles play.
