HU netwomen fall to Grace

Using a shuffled lineup that didn't include top player Cassie Kasicki, the Huntington University women's tennis team took a 4-5 loss to visiting Grace on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Celine Rongos stepped into Kasicki's shoes and helped HU win both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Morgan Bemisderfer, her playing partner at first doubles, moved up to second singles and got a win there as well, but HU's only other victory came from the third doubles team of Ciara Smith and Stacie Cressman.

Rongos downed Kristin Cassidy, 6-2, 6-2, and Bemisderfer topped Jayna Huber, 6-0, 6-1. The pair teamed up for an 8-2 win over Cassidy and Mariah Zumbrun at first doubles.

Smith and Cressman won a 9-8 thriller from Sarah Hinkel and Esther Smith at third doubles.

Zumbrun, a Huntington North product, beat HU's Katie Johnson at third singles, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Jessica Abel at fourth singles lost to Hinkel, 3-6, 4-6; Smith at fifth singles was a 3-6, 1-6 loser to Gabrielle Lawrence; and Cressman at sixth singles lost to Katie Etter, 1-4 (retired).

Johnson and Abel at second doubles lost to Huber and Lawrence, 4-8.
