The Huntington University women's soccer team gave conference leader Spring Arbor a scare on its home field on Saturday, Oct. 12, but came up short, falling 2-0.
The Foresters, 5-10, 4-3 in the Crossroads League, played the Cougars, 13-2, 7-0 in conference, to a 0-0 halftime tie.
Just under 20 minutes into the second half, however, Spring Arbor came alive when conference scoring leader Kelly Linton found the back of the net, off an assist by Kailyn Wegenke. A little over six minutes after that, Samantha Sturgeon added to the Cougars' advantage and the team's defense preserved the 2-0 win.
The Foresters took six shots for the game, all of them on goal. The Cougars booted 18 shots, with 11 on frame, but goalkeepers Caitlin Adams and Korynne Kik kept Huntington in the contest as the former recorded seven stops and the latter registered one.
Sarah Yancer made four stops in goal to pick up the win for Spring Arbor.
