The Huntington North High School girls' cross country team spread five runners through the top 30 finishers and won the Marion Regional at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The Lady Vikings claimed the regional crown and advanced to semi-state with a tally of 72 points. The other four teams advancing are Norwell, runner-up with 97 points, Bellmont, third with 102, Northfield, fourth with 120 and Canterbury, fifth with 124.

Sophomore Hannah Stoffel led Huntington North with a fifth place finish in 19:25.3. Freshman Cadee Harmon also claimed a top 10 spot, placing 10th in 19:59.4. Junior Emily Eherenman captured 16th in 20:14.0, junior Stephanie McElhaney took 23rd in 20:37.9 and senior Cassidy Johnson grabbed 30th in 20:51.5 to round out the Lady Vikings' scoring.

"Our senior Cassidy Johnson really had a good race and dropped a lot of time from her last several races, so we're very pleased with her," said Huntington North Head Coach Carrie Boxell. "She picked it up where we had another one kind of drop back due to a side ache. She really helped out her teammates there. We also had Cadee Harmon have another solid race and we're pleased with that as well."

Sophomore Bailey Beery of Bellmont won the race with a time of 18:32.3.

The top 10 individuals not advancing with their teams earn a trip to semi-state as well, which will be hosted by New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Junior Taryn Doering was 31st in 21:01.0 and sophomore Marissa Jamison was 38th in 21:21.9 to complete the Huntington North squad.
