Season ends for Vikings with 42-20 loss to North Side
Steve Clark - Saturday, November 2, 2013 10:27 AM
The Huntington North High School football team lost to host North Side, 42-20, on Friday, Nov. 1, ending its season in the first round of sectionals.
The Vikings kept things close with the Redskins for much of the first half, trailing only 14-0. However, with just under six minutes before the half, the Summit Athletic Conference champions got a two-yard rushing touchdown from junior Michael Lovett III to go up 21-0. Then, immediately following an end zone interception of Huntington North quarterback Keenan Leichty, the North Side offense scored in just two plays, with senior Zack McKinstry hauling in a 75-yard pass to set up a five-yard scoring run by Juwan Bolden, putting Coach Fine's squad in a 28-0 hole with under two minutes to halftime.
The Redskins led 35-0 when the Vikings finally got on the board with 5:40 left in the third quarter, on a rushing touchdown by the senior Leichty. Huntington North found the end zone twice more before the end of the contest, but it was too little, too late, and the Vikings, 5-5, fell to an SAC opponent in the opening round of sectionals for the second consecutive year.
North Side, 7-3, will play Snider for the sectional title on Friday, Nov. 8.
