Schroeder stars but HU spikers drop 3 of 4 at Olivet tourney

Alyssa Schroeder was the top player for the Huntington University volleyball team, taking all-tournament honors, despite the Foresters falling 1-3 in the Olivet Nazarene University Homestead Classic on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17.

In the first match, Huntington defeated William Penn University in five sets, with scores of 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13. Schroeder had 45 assists, five blocks and two aces; Brittney Smelser had 21 kills; Stacie Hoffman added 12 kills; and Katie Bowers had 10 more kills.

Friday's second game pitted HU against Lee Univer-sity. Lee won the match over Huntington in five sets, with scores of 25-23, 17-25, 23-25, 25-20, 10-15. Smelser led the Foresters with 20 kills, Amanda Meyers had 11 kills and 19 digs; and Schroeder contributed 43 assists and four blocks.

The Foresters lost in both matches on Saturday as well.
Against Grand View University, Huntington fell in three sets, with scores of 18-25, 17-25, 17-25. Smelser had nine kills and 16 digs, and Schroeder recorded 21 assists and eight digs.

Saturday's second match saw HU be defeated by Oklahoma Baptist University, with scores of 16-25, 18-25, 25-27. Hoffman and Smelser led the offense, with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Schroeder chipped in 23 assists and Katie Bowers had 20 digs.
