HU men roll to 8-0 with win over Rochester

The Huntington University men's basketball team put host Rochester College in a 29-18 hole at halftime on Saturday, Nov. 23, and the Warriors never climbed out as the Foresters won 66-53 to keep their undefeated season rolling.

Senior Shane Merryman led the Foresters, 8-0, with 22 points and 13 rebounds for his third double-double in four games. Freshman Derek Hinen tossed in 12 points and junior Alec Peterson added 11 in his first game of the season.

Rochester came on stronger in the second half, upping its shooting accuracy from 30 percent to 50 percent. Huntington, however, pulled off the same feat as it raised its shooting output from 44.4 percent to 60.9 percent, edging the Warriors offensively, 37-35, for the frame.

Stavros Schizas and Paris Pereira paced Rochester, 1-7, with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

For the game, the Foresters converted 26 of 50 field goal attempts for 52 percent and 8 of 15 from the line for a mark of 53 percent.

The Warriors went 18 for 24 at the charity stripe for 75 percent, but the accuracy didn't follow them to the floor, where they submitted a 15 for 38 performance for 39.5 percent.

Huntington topped Olivet Nazarene in boards, 32-21, and doubled its assists numbers, 16-8, led by Hinen's team-best five.
