Lady Vikes lose halftime lead, game to MC

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team watched a halftime lead disappear against host Muncie Central in a 45-43 loss on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Lady Vikings, 5-8, 1-3 in the North Central Conference, led 11-9 after the first quarter and expanded their advantage to 23-18 at the half. The Lady Bearcats battled back in the third frame, however, outscoring Coach BreAnne Dyer's squad 12-6 to lead 30-29 going into the final period. It was a fight to the finish, with Muncie Central putting in 15 points to Huntington North's 14 to record the narrow win.
Senior Alyssa Hiple was the only Lady Vike to crack double figures, knocking down 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting.
Huntington North shot 18 for 51 for 35.3 percent and made the most of its few visits to the charity stripe, hitting all six tries.
Jayla Scaife recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Bearcats, 12-4, 4-1 in league play. Jessica Rowe added 15 points, doing most of her damage at the line, where she went 9 of 14.
Muncie Central converted 15 of 35 field goals for 42.9 percent and 14 of 25 freebies for 56 percent.
Seniors Maddie Klender and Paige Coolman pulled down eight and seven rebounds, respectively, to give the Lady Vikings a 34-24 advantage on the glass. Coolman also dished out a game-high five assists.
Huntington North dominated the junior varsity game, 54-19, behind 10 points from junior Morgan Butler and nine from freshman Aubrie Eckert.
