Viking offense clicking in win over Northfield

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team was clicking on offense and trounced host Northfield, 61-38, on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Junior Cody Adams produced season-highs of 12 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double for the Vikings, 9-7. Sophomore Konner Platt tossed in 12 points off the bench and senior Matt Hogan added eight.

Coach Ty Platt's squad stormed out of the gates, leading the Norsemen 12-3 after the first quarter on the way to a 29-13 halftime advantage. Huntington North upped its shooting percentage over 11 points to 57.7 percent in the second half to expand its lead to 42-21 by the end of three frames before dropping in 19 more points in the final period to cap off the lopsided win.

For the game, the Vikings shot 27 for 52 for 51.9 percent and 3 of 4 from the free throw line for 75 percent.

Tanner Wilcox was the lone Norseman to crack double figures, scoring a game-high 17 points.

Northfield converted 10 of 34 field goals for 29.4 percent and 17 of 27 freebies for 63 percent.

Senior Kyle Platt added seven rebounds to Huntington North's production on the boards to help the visitors dominate that category, 36-20.

Guards Hogan, Keaton Irwin and Keenan Leichty each dished out three assists as HNHS had 15 for the contest.

The Vikings also won big in the junior varsity game, 45-26.

Freshman Hunter Hollowell knocked down 12 points for Huntington North while sophomore Luke Stroud netted 10.
