Nash's leap at Taylor earns him spot at nationals

Jake Nash's first place leap of 6-7 not only set a new high jump record for the Huntington University men's track and field team, competing at the Taylor University Indoor Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1, but also landed him a spot at the 2014 NAIA Indoor National Championships.

It was a strong meet for Nash, who also brought home a top finish in triple jump where he registered a jump of 41-11.75.

Tyler Herber turned in a 9:03.42, the eighth fastest time in program history, in the 3,000 meters to finish second, while teammate Austin Presnell finished fifth in 9:10.62.

A pair of freshmen had solid performances. Michael Bowman clocked a 2:01.78 to take fifth in the 800-meter run and register the eighth-fastest time in Forester history. Wyatt Jones also recorded the eighth quickest time in the HU record books with his sixth place finish time of :53.96 in the 400-meter dash.

The 800-meter relay team of Daniel DeBoni, Jones, Scott Skiles and Sean Sewell ran a 1:34.14 to claim second, as did the distance medley relay team of Presnell, Bowman, Eric Baker and Herber with its time of 11:19.47.

Other top 10 finishes for the men included DeBoni in the 55-meters, seventh in :06.67, and Brian Menzie in the 800 meters, ninth in 2:08.06, and the mile, eighth in 4:38.30.
